DSG Goes Social
Social Media is now mainstream. We've all heard the statistics – if Facebook were a country it would be the third largest in the world, there are more tweets every day than phone calls, etc. But what you may not have heard is the increasing body of evidence about how businesses are benefitting from social media. For example, according to research from The Society for New Communications Research, blogs are now the fourth most commonly used source of online information for executive decision making.
So it seemed not just the right time to launch DSG's blog but also to embrace social media, and launch our "DSG Goes Social" program. This program extends DSG's presence onto Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter and we'd like to invite you to participate by liking, following or recommending us on these sites and, in return, we'd be happy to do the same for you. And of course, a good old fashioned recommendation to a friend is always appreciated!
Part of this program includes a new look to our newsletter and our website. We want to find the best ways to get timely information out to our customers and we'd like to engage you in conversations to create a more meaningful dialogue. We'd like to start with your feedback on how well our blog, newsletter, website and webinars are meeting your information needs and we encourage your ongoing comments and questions.
So that's our plan. The same trusted DSG content but shared as a more timely two-way communication. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

BDO USA Confirms that the Cloud is all
about Business Agility
DSG has been tracking both expected and achieved business benefits from the cloud since October 2008. In the first survey we ever did on this subject, 59.4% of respondents identified increased business agility as the top expected SaaS benefit. Two and a half years later, it’s good to see a survey by BDO USA confirm that the trend is continuing, with 72% of respondents saying that the cloud is delivering improved agility.
What’s more, as the US economy emerges from the recession, 46% of companies expect the cloud to be a key driver/enabler. “Technology companies have switched gears from survival to growth mode. The flexibility and scalability of cloud computing, created cost-effective infrastructures that allowed adopters to weather the recession and emerge ahead of the curve” said Hank Galligan, leader in the Technology and Life Sciences Practice at BDO USA.

Top Tips
Sales Operations
Successful CRM applications depend on your business achieving a fine balance between meeting the needs of the entire company and ensuring that the sales people get the features they need to operate more effectively and therefore buy-in to the CRM implementation. Here are some of the key factors that we've seen can accelerate success with sales and operations.
- CRM doesn't exist in a vacuum - it impacts finance, manufacturing, product fulfillment, service and support, and your partners. Sales people know this and, because most are pragmatists, they understand that whatever is in the business' best interests is in their best interest as well.
- Pick the right Non-Sales People - when deciding who should work on a CRM project, try to pick people that already have good rapport and credibility with the sales team – this will speed things up and make sure that the non-sales voice is heard.
- KISS - when designing your sales operations solution, there will be trade-offs that need to be made between functionality and ease and speed of use. When faced with these trade-offs, unless there is a very good reason, side with ease of use. Complex features and processes may look great on a white board, but they will breakdown very quickly in the real world.
- Give-to-Get - when compromise is required, make sure that everyone gives a little bit. Sales people are natural negotiators so don't be afraid to ask them to give up a little bit of their "must-have" functionality if you have something to offer them in return.
